Future Of Work Trends In 2023 That Will Impact Corporate Team-Building

The ability of an organisation to build high-performing teams is what will give them a competitive advantage in today’s global and virtual workplace. Attracting the right talent, getting people to work together effectively, and creating a culture where everyone can thrive are critical in today's competitive business environment.

To do this, organisations must remain relevant and adaptable to ride the waves of ever-changing trends in the corporate team-building landscape.

Here are the top trends in 2023 that you should pay close watch to in order to help your organisation achieve your corporate team-building goals and thrive in the post-pandemic world:

1. Quiet Hiring

LinkedIn went abuzz when "quiet quitting" made headlines in 2022. The opinions for and against the trend were heavily polarized. Some people were mind-blown by their sudden realization, while others remained steadfast that going "above and beyond" is the best way to get ahead in life.

In 2023, the trend continues, but with a twist: "Quiet Hiring."

Similar to how an employee doesn't actually quit when they "quietly quit," the organization also doesn't hire a new employee when it "quietly hires."

By upskilling employees through corporate team-building events, an organization can snag additional talent from its existing pool of employees. The organization can then use the newly-trained employees to take on new responsibilities and tasks (of course, with corresponding compensation adjustments).

When these changes are implemented, both the organization and its employees benefit: the employees get additional opportunities for growth without having to leave their current jobs, and the company is able to expand its services without adding more overhead costs.

And as an added bonus, team-building events can also help an organization retain its top talent. Employees are more inclined to remain in an organization that offers them opportunities for growth and professional development than one that does not.

2. Social Skills Gap

Many have yet to fully heal from the effects of social isolation that came with the pandemic. The long months of limited physical interaction have left them feeling unprepared to deal with “re-entering” the “physical workforce”, potentially due to an erosion of social skills when society was confined to their homes.

Gen Z employees in particular corroborate this phenomenon where 51% feel ill-equipped with the soft skills to navigate the demands of the workforce.

Maintaining good team dynamics among members who lack confidence in their social skills is challenging and can lead to conflict. The best way to combat this is by providing opportunities for people to practice their social skills in low-pressure environments. In such settings, employees can build their confidence while also developing their listening, communication, and collaboration skills.

This is a worrying trend that demands for intervention through effective corporate team-building programs that can strategically provide new perspectives and approaches on how teams can maximise collaboration.

When done right, corporate team-building programs can bridge this social skills gap and empower teams to handle conflict resolution, communicate effectively, and establish trust.
