Warning Signs That Your Team Needs Corporate Team-Building

High-performing teams do not happen by chance. They are the result of an organisation that invests in building a culture that allows teams to thrive. One such investment these organisations make is investing in corporate team-building. We’re not talking about those “team bonding off-day” once-off events. The corporate team-building they invest in are proven and trusted programs that give teams the tools to maximise collaboration and minimise (or manage) conflict.

They don’t wait till their teams are on the brink of falling apart before deciding that it’s time to prioritise corporate team-building. They make it a priority from the get-go.

How can you tell that your team is in need of corporate team-building? Here are some signs you should look out for that show a team can definitely benefit from some corporate team-building programs:

They talk behind each other’s backs

A team where team members are talking behind each other’s backs is a team that promotes a culture of gossip.

Gossip is a surefire way of eroding any trust within a team and can do irreparable damage to the workplace environment. Stress levels skyrocket because team members fear that whatever they say or do (or do not say or do) can put them at risk of being in the “hot seat”. Unprofessional behaviour tends to follow when things boil over.

A gossip culture is often caused by unresolved conflicts between members of the team. The best way to resolve this is with a trusted corporate team-building program that can help teams address these issues directly and build trust between each other.

Corporate team-building allows members of a team to understand each other’s differences and learn conflict management techniques that enable them to work better together as they become more aware of how best to communicate and not avoid confrontation.

They prefer working alone than together

A team that prefers to take on projects individually instead of collectively is likely to be a team that is unable to collaborate well together.

Sure, not all tasks warrant a group working together. But if you see a team where team members are more focused on their individual targets as compared to the overall objectives of the group, that is a team that cannot succeed together in the long run. A team where everyone is “working in silos” is a dangerous sign of a team unwilling to collaborate together.

When a team is unwilling to collaborate, they will often find that there is a limit to the extent that they can go, making their success (if they manage to achieve that) short-lived and unsustainable. A strategy for teams to go the distance is through corporate team-building workshops that give them practical tools on how to maximise collaboration and open communication channels.

They become overly comfortable

It is human nature to become comfortable with what we know. When it comes to teams, however, being overly comfortable can lead to stagnation and a lack of innovation. That's why corporate team-building programs exist and are a critical component in pushing teams out of their comfort zones and encouraging them to embrace change in order to stay competitive.

The right corporate team-building program can help promote communication between team members and increase trust within the team by allowing a safe exchange of different ideas and opinions. These all work toward challenging team members to productively debate over creative problem-solving strategies, explore innovative solutions, and work together as a cohesive unit.

Final Thoughts

Corporate team-building solutions exist not just for “dysfunctional” teams. They exist for teams who are “fine” but have the potential to go even further.
